The gap
Asymmetric board games are hard to balance against a computer, because one side is easier to play well.
What it is
This template gives the computer separate search depths for attack and defence and lets the player try both sides in turn, so each level stays fair.
How you use it
Unzip, serve the folder and open index.html, then edit game.js; npm test plays it again in headless Chrome.
Source code of a real, playable game to reskin and learn from, with a smoke test whose bot plays it.
Use it when
Built for
After a move, the four neighbours of the moved piece are checked for an enemy with a friendly piece, a corner or the empty throne behind it; the jarl has his own capture test that only runs after a raider moves.
The evaluation counts the corners the jarl can reach in one and in two moves, so raiders learn to close the edges before a fork appears.
Plain JavaScript and Canvas 2D; open index.html through any static server and edit game.js.
A headless Chrome test loads the game, checks the console, presses keys and taps, and lets the built-in bot play a run to its result screen.
