Driftmoor Game Template

The complete source of Driftmoor 2.0, a raft voyage where sails steer by where they stand, weight tips the deck and a creature strikes the lowest edge, with a menu standard, save slots, generated music and a bot that sails whole voyages in the tests.

A small raft of four tiles with the hook flying toward a floating plank

What it solves

The gap

A building game where placement changes how the vehicle moves needs a physics model that is simple to read, a preview so players understand it, and threats that react to the same model; each is easy to get subtly wrong.

What it is

This template gives all of them working together, with tests that prove the steering, the balance, the creature's choice of edge, saves, sound levels and a winnable voyage.

How you use it

Unzip, serve the folder and open index.html, then edit game.js; npm test plays it again in headless Chrome.

Source code of a real, playable game to reskin and learn from, with a smoke test whose bot plays it.

Who it is for

Use it when

  • Publishing your own sailing, physics or building game on itch.io, web portals or your site, or learning how one is built.
  • Learning how a complete sailing-physics game with menus, saves and tests is built in plain JavaScript and Canvas 2D.

Built for

  • Web and indie game developers who know some JavaScript.
  • Developers who want a finished, tested game to build on instead of a blank canvas.

What you get

Steering by placement

forces() sums each open sail's pull at its tile; the torque about the keel line turns the raft, and keels turn side-slip into forward way.

Weight decides the threat

analyse() compares the centre of weight with the centre of buoyancy; the deepest edge tile is where the creature rises, so ballast and barbs are a defence.

No build step

Plain JavaScript and Canvas 2D with no runtime dependencies; open index.html through any static server and edit game.js.

A smoke test

A headless Chrome test loads the game, checks the console, presses keys and taps, and lets the built-in bot play a run to its result screen.
