Bitbevel specimen with the name in Bold, pangrams, the alphabet and sizes from 10 to 40 px

What it solves

The gap

Most pixel fonts stop at English, or treat Cyrillic as an afterthought with missing letters and Russian-only shapes, which leaves Bulgarian games and interfaces with broken or foreign-looking text.

What it is

Bitbevel covers Latin, Latin-1 and the complete Bulgarian and Russian alphabet on one consistent grid, and switches to Bulgarian letterforms on its own when the text is tagged as Bulgarian.

How you use it

One font family that sets English, Western European and Bulgarian or Russian text in the same pixel style, with game symbols included and tested font files for desktop and web.

A compact, sharp pixel face for game UIs, retro web pages and small screens that need both Latin and Cyrillic in the same style.

Who it is for

Use it when

  • HUDs, dialogue boxes and menus in pixel-art games with English and Bulgarian text
  • Retro-styled websites and landing pages using the WOFF2 files
  • Posters, stream overlays and merchandise with a pixel look

Built for

  • Indie game developers and pixel artists
  • Web and graphic designers who need Latin and Cyrillic in one pixel style

What is inside

The grid

Capitals and digits are 7 pixels tall, lowercase is 5 pixels with two-row ascenders and descenders, and accents sit above a one-pixel gap. Round shapes are bevelled on the top-left and bottom-right corners, the other corners stay square.

Cyrillic and Bulgarian forms

The full Bulgarian and Russian alphabet is included, with Ё, Ѝ and their lowercase forms. Sixteen Bulgarian alternates are applied automatically for text marked as Bulgarian, or by hand through stylistic set ss01.

Two weights

Bold is built from the same bitmaps: each stroke grows one pixel and narrow counters get an extra column so letters such as M, m, Ж and ш stay open. Digits keep the same width in both weights.

Formats and checks

TTF, OTF and WOFF2 for each weight. The test suite checks coverage, metrics, contour direction, overlaps, OpenType features, OTS acceptance and pixel-exact FreeType rendering.

Questions

Bitbevel is an original pixel font in Regular and Bold, drawn on a 5 x 7 grid, with Latin, Latin-1, full Bulgarian and Russian Cyrillic, arrows, currency and game UI symbols.

Any software that installs or loads TTF, OTF or WOFF2 fonts. For sharp pixels use sizes that are multiples of 10 px and turn off antialiasing where your software allows it. Rendering was tested on Linux in Chrome 155 and FreeType 2.14.3.

There is no italic, no kerning table, no Greek, no Serbian or Macedonian specific letters and no bitmap atlas for a particular game engine. Windows, macOS, Office, Adobe apps and game engines were not tested.

Every glyph was drawn as a text bitmap and built into fonts with fontTools; the outlines are merged pixel squares. Created with AI assistance; glyph coverage, metrics, outlines and rendering were checked by PN Scripts with an automated test suite and headless Chrome screenshots.
