Thriftwell dashboard with the month's budget, debt-free dates and two charts

What it solves

The gap

People paying off several debts rarely know which order saves the most interest or when they will be debt-free, and a budget that resets every month hides money set aside for irregular costs.

What it is

One workbook that runs the snowball, avalanche and minimum-only schedules side by side from your real debts, and a category budget where unspent money can roll over.

How you use it

A clear debt-free date and the interest each method costs, next to the budget that pays for it.

For people who want to see the numbers behind their debt plan in an ordinary spreadsheet they own, without an app subscription.

Who it is for

Use it when

  • Deciding between paying the smallest card or the most expensive one first
  • Running a household budget where groceries or gifts money carries over
  • Tracking net worth and savings goals while the debts go down

Built for

  • Individuals and couples paying off credit cards and loans
  • Budget coaches and advisers who prepare a plan with a client

What is inside

Three payoff plans from one list of debts

Enter each debt's balance, yearly interest rate and minimum payment, plus the extra you can add each month. The Snowball, Avalanche and Minimums sheets charge interest monthly, apply payments in order and move freed payments to the next debt, for up to 360 months.

A comparison you can act on

The Debts sheet lists months to debt-free, the debt-free month, total interest, total paid and interest saved against minimum payments only, then the payoff month of every debt under each method. A chart shows the total balance year by year.

A budget that remembers

Plan thirty categories over twelve months. Actuals are summed from the transaction log by category and month, and for the categories you mark, unspent money carries into the next month while overspending reduces it.

Tested formulas, two languages

Six debt scenarios, including equal balances, a 0 percent plan and a debt that never shrinks, were calculated by LibreOffice and compared with an independent Python model. The Bulgarian edition uses euro and Bulgarian month names.

Questions

A spreadsheet workbook for a monthly budget with rollover, a transaction log, debt payoff planning with snowball and avalanche schedules, savings goals and net worth.

LibreOffice Calc (tested with 24.2) or Microsoft Excel 2010 or newer. Excel and Google Sheets were not opened during testing; the workbook uses only standard functions such as SUMIFS, COUNTIFS and EDATE.

No bank import, no currency conversion, no macros and no mobile app. Limits are 10 debts, 30 categories, 600 transactions, 12 budget months and 360 schedule months. It is a planning tool, not financial advice.

The workbook is generated with openpyxl and converted to .ods by LibreOffice. Created with AI assistance; every formula checked by PN Scripts by recalculating the workbooks in LibreOffice and comparing them with an independent Python model across six debt scenarios.
