WooCommerce product page with a quantity field set to 6 and an error saying the minimum quantity is 6

What it solves

The gap

WooCommerce sells any quantity from 1 upwards. Shops that sell in packs, need a minimum per order line, limit scarce items, or cannot afford tiny orders end up writing to customers after the order instead of stopping it at the cart, and many quantity plugins do not cover the block cart and checkout.

What it is

Packstep stores minimum, maximum and pack size on products, variations, categories and the store, combines them into one rule per cart line, and checks it in the quantity field, on add to cart, in the classic and block cart and at checkout, with messages that say which quantity to choose.

How you use it

Rules that hold in every part of the shop, inheritance that keeps the setup short, and messages that tell the customer how to fix the cart.

For WooCommerce shops that sell in packs or by minimum quantities and use the block checkout or the classic one, and want rules set once per category instead of on every product.

Who it is for

Use it when

  • A drinks shop that sells bottles in packs of 6 and cans in packs of 24
  • A wholesaler with a minimum order value and a minimum quantity per product
  • A clothing shop that sells shirts by the dozen in mixed colours

Built for

  • WooCommerce shop owners who sell in packs, cases or minimum quantities
  • Developers and agencies building B2B and wholesale shops on WooCommerce

What is inside

Rules where they belong

Set a pack size once on the Drinks category and every drink follows it; give one product its own maximum; give a single variation a lower limit. Each field is taken from the most specific level that sets it, and the product editor shows the inherited values so nothing is hidden.

Every way into the cart

The quantity field starts at the minimum and moves in whole packs, archive buttons add the minimum, and the server checks add to cart, cart updates and checkout. The block cart's plus and minus buttons follow the pack size because the rules reach the Store API.

Messages that help

Instead of a bare refusal the customer reads which quantities are possible: "is sold in packs of 6. Please choose 6 or 12", "You already have 18 in your cart", or how much is missing for the minimum order value. The texts are translatable and come in English and Bulgarian.

Safe settings

Minimums are rounded up and maximums down to whole packs. A maximum below the minimum is shown as a warning in the editor and not enforced, so a typo never makes a product impossible to buy. Sold-individually products are left alone and gift cards can be exempted with a filter.

Questions

A WooCommerce plugin that enforces minimum quantities, maximum quantities and pack sizes per product, variation and category, plus cart-wide limits on items and order value, in the classic and the block cart and checkout.

WordPress, WooCommerce and PHP 8.1 or newer. It was tested with WordPress 7.1.3, WooCommerce 11.2.1 and PHP 8.4.

Decimal quantities, rules per customer role, a maximum order value and price changes by quantity. It does not change stock handling; WooCommerce's own stock limits still apply.

The rule logic is plain PHP covered by 69 PHPUnit tests. The plugin was installed from its ZIP into a fresh WooCommerce shop and tested over HTTP: product pages, the classic cart, the Store API and checkout, in English and Bulgarian. Created with AI assistance; the rule logic was checked by PN Scripts with 69 PHPUnit tests, and the plugin with a scripted end-to-end test on a real WordPress 7.1.3 and WooCommerce 11.2.1 shop, including the Store API used by the block cart and checkout.
