What it solves

The gap

Filament 5 imports CSV only and writes rows without showing what will change. A supplier sheet with a typo in a category, a decimal comma or a duplicate code ends in a failed rows file to fix by hand, or worse, in wrong data that nobody noticed.

What it is

A drop-in import action that reads real spreadsheets, shows every row as new, changed or wrong before saving, lets people fix cells in place, and then imports through Filament's own pipeline.

Every import checked row by row with your own importer, rules and policies, fixed in the browser, and only then saved.

How it works

Use Sheafgate's ImportAction with the Filament importer you already have and register the plugin in the panel. People upload a file, check the mapping and the key column, click Review, fix what is marked, and click Import.

The review step

Each row runs through your importer's resolveRecord(), casts, rules and its validate and fill hooks, never the save hooks. Database writes on the model's connection are rolled back and nothing is saved; other side effects of those hooks, such as mail, are not undone, and Sheafgate::isReviewing() lets hooks skip them. Changed rows show the old and new value of every field, and cells are fixed by clicking them.

Import and history

The reviewed rows go to Filament's own import dispatcher with queued chunks, progress, the completion notification and the failed rows file. Rows are checked again when they are written. The Imports page lists every upload with its results, and a prune command removes old ones.

Requirements and limits

PHP 8.2 or newer, Laravel 12 or 13, Filament 5.10 or newer and Filament's import tables. Old .xls files, undo of an import, approvals and scheduled imports are not included. The test suite runs on SQLite; other databases were not tested.

A Filament 5 plugin that imports XLSX, ODS and CSV files through your Filament importers, with a review grid before anything is saved, in-place fixes, matching by a key column, lookups, saved mappings, a template file and an import history.

A Laravel 12 or 13 app with Filament 5.10 or newer, PHP 8.2 or newer and Filament's import tables. Large files run best with a queue worker; without one, everything runs during the request.

Old Excel 97 to 2003 files, password protected workbooks, undo of an import, approval by a second person, scheduled imports and mapping of single values. Decimal commas are flagged for a fix, not converted.

Written by PN Scripts on top of Filament's import pipeline, with its own streaming readers for XLSX and ODS. Created with AI assistance; the code, tests and texts were checked by PN Scripts with 203 Pest tests, PHPStan at the max level, files saved by LibreOffice and installs of the release ZIP in fresh Laravel apps used in headless Chrome.
