The gap
Hop chains make Chinese checkers hard to code and hard to play on a touch screen: players cannot see where a chain can end.
What it is
This template finds every reachable hole with the hop path to it, lights them up when a marble is picked, animates the chain hop by hop and leaves a trail of the last move.
How you use it
Unzip, serve the folder and open index.html, then edit game.js; npm test plays it again in headless Chrome.
Source code of a real, playable game to reskin and learn from, with a smoke test whose bot plays it.
Use it when
Built for
The board is the union of two big triangles in cube coordinates, so neighbours, hops and distances are simple sums and the six points fall out of the coordinates.
A rival sums its marbles' distances to the tip of its target point, punishes stragglers, avoids moving back and forth and, at higher levels, tries one more own move for every choice.
Plain JavaScript and Canvas 2D; open index.html through any static server and edit game.js.
A headless Chrome test loads the game, checks the console, presses keys and taps, and lets the built-in bot play a run to its result screen.
