The gap
Branching stories need a readable way to write conditions and effects, comfortable reading tools and art that does not depend on image files.
What it is
This template keeps the whole story as plain data, evaluates it with a tiny language and paints every location in code.
How you use it
Unzip, serve the folder and open index.html, then edit game.js; npm test plays it again in headless Chrome.
Source code of a real, playable game to reskin and learn from, with a smoke test whose bot plays it.
Use it when
Built for
Each scene has a chapter, an art description, paragraphs that may carry a condition, effects and choices that point to the next scene.
Write f.letterGiven&t.tob>=2 or !f.bellRung; effects are f.flag or t.name+1, so writers never touch code.
Plain JavaScript and Canvas 2D; open index.html through any static server and edit game.js.
A headless Chrome test loads the game, checks the console, presses keys and taps, and lets the built-in bot play a run to its result screen.
