Developers who write Cyrillic next to code lose time to letters that look the same in both alphabets, to text typed with the wrong layout, and to transliterating names and titles by hand, and the IDE does not see any of it.

Kirilka adds an inspection that flags mixed Cyrillic and Latin words with a one-click fix, plus editor actions for the keyboard layout, Bulgarian transliteration, slugs and Unicode escapes, in every JetBrains IDE.

What is inside

Hidden letters, found

Words that mix Cyrillic and Latin letters are marked in identifiers, strings, comments, properties, Markdown and every other file type. Alt+Enter swaps the stray letters for their lookalikes, and Code | Inspect Code checks a whole project at once.

The wrong layout, undone

Fix Keyboard Layout retypes the selection, or what you typed before the caret, as the other layout would have: Latin keys to Cyrillic and back. Choose the Bulgarian BDS, traditional or new phonetic, Russian or Ukrainian layout in the settings.

Transliteration and slugs

Transliterate to Latin follows the Bulgarian Transliteration Act, with sht for щ, a for ъ, ia at the end of a word and Bulgaria for България, and keeps capitals as they were. Make Slug gives lower case words joined by a dash, underscore or dot.

Unicode escapes

Escape to \uXXXX turns Cyrillic and every other non-ASCII character into escapes for properties files and string literals, and Unescape turns them back into text you can read and edit, leaving escaped backslashes alone.
