The gap
Sailing physics is easy to make either too realistic to enjoy or so simple that the wind stops mattering.
What it is
This template uses one speed curve by wind angle and a single velocity-made-good search, which keeps tacking, reaching and running meaningful while the code stays short.
How you use it
Unzip, serve the folder and open index.html, then edit game.js; npm test plays it again in headless Chrome.
Source code of a real, playable game to reskin and learn from, with a smoke test whose bot plays it.
Use it when
Built for
Speed is wind strength times a polar factor: almost nothing inside the no-go zone, the most across the wind, a little less running before it.
Rivals and the bot try 72 headings and keep the one that brings them fastest toward the next gate, with a small preference for staying on the same tack.
Plain JavaScript and Canvas 2D; open index.html through any static server and edit game.js.
A headless Chrome test loads the game, checks the console, presses keys and taps, and lets the built-in bot play a run to its result screen.
