Dabfield and Furrow side by side: a painted path of flowers and rows of trees on a hill

What it solves

The gap

Scattering by weight paint or laying rows over uneven ground means building and tuning a geometry-nodes setup by hand for each scene.

What it is

One click adds a ready, editable modifier: paint where things grow, or set a row direction and spacing and let the rows follow the ground.

How you use it

Select the objects, select the surface, click once, and paint or set the rows.

Micro-tools: one geometry-nodes job each, at a small price, not a scatter system.

Who it is for

Use it when

  • Flowers, stones and grass along painted paths and borders.
  • Vineyards, orchards and crop fields on hilly terrain.
  • Fence posts, lamps or seats in straight lines over uneven ground.

Built for

  • Blender users who dress environments and landscapes.
  • Artists who want a small, editable geometry-nodes setup instead of a large scatter system.

What they do

Dabfield: paint where things grow

Select the objects to scatter, then the surface. Add Dabfield makes an empty "Dabfield" vertex group and switches to Weight Paint: paint, and instances appear under the brush, denser and bigger where the weight is higher.

Dabfield: spacing and variety

Keep instances a minimum distance apart, cut off faint weight, set a size range, stand them upright or along the surface, and add random tilt and spin.

Furrow: rows on terrain

Select the plant, post or lamp, then the terrain. Rows in any direction cover the terrain and every point drops straight down onto it; instances face along the rows.

Furrow: only where it fits

Max Slope leaves steep ground empty and an optional painted mask keeps the rows inside a field. Stagger every other row, add jitter, keep plants upright or tilt them with the ground.

Questions

Yes. Dabfield and Furrow are separate add-ons, and the pair has both. Installing the pair next to a single tool does not register it twice.

No. The node groups are saved in the .blend file, so it opens and renders the same without the add-on, and you can open and edit the nodes.

Furrow lays out at most 2,000 points per side, so a tiny spacing on a large terrain cannot freeze Blender. Tested on Blender 5.2.1 and 5.2.2 on Linux; Blender 4.2 and 4.5 LTS, Windows and macOS were not tested.

Built with the help of an AI coding assistant; checked by PN Scripts with automated tests in Blender. Images are renders of procedural Blender scenes; no AI-generated imagery.
